The New Year

playing pinball on my laptop
working on getting drunk
again
because it’s cold outside and
I don’t have
anywhere I need to go
several inches of snow
blanketing the ground and
just a few days
away from the new year
like it really makes a difference
we think
flipping over the calendar
somehow
gives us a fresh start
and I’m wearing my new shirt
the one I got for Christmas
I don’t have to go to work
I can stay up late and sleep in
because I’m on vacation
this entire week
