to Hank Williams
and feeling so
goddamn lonely
that I could cry. The day
and afternoon
melted away with the sun
and it left me standing here,
having done
nothing but watch
the light disappear.
Watching the shadow of
the horizon high above me envelope the land
and swallow up the valley in the same way
it has done for a million years or more.

And now night has come and
I've done nothing
except crack open
the last beer
in my fridge and
put on ol' Hank and sing along
to keep myself from crying in the dark
over nothing.
